Deep Thoughts

Your regularly scheduled blogging has been interrupted for some deep thoughts. Your regular silly mommy blogging stories will resume tomorrow.

I have been thinking for a while about a song I heard recently in church. The words go:

"Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are things Jesus taught."

I'm not sure why these particular words stuck out to me the other day. But I thought in my head, how does that work with a 3-year-old who is the tantrum king? As I pondered this week on this song, I came to the conclusion that you can discipline while still being gentle and loving. My favorite example would be my husband.

I am the one who has a quick tempter and while I don't ever hit my children, I am quick to send him to time out because of my temper. Now the hubby on the other hand is always slow to send him to time out and would rather gently and lovingly talk to him. Even after the Babe is in time out, I'm always still stern and make him apologize. The hubby also makes him apologize but just has a gentleness that I can't even come close to.

So next time you guys see me in the store dragging my toddler around (ungently and unlovingly), remind me that I need to be more gentle and loving. I'm not promising that I won't yell at you either though. But apparently, I need to take lessons from the hubby on how to be more gentle and loving.

Wardrobe Wednesday

Today it's raining in Vegas!! So for today's 2 items which I, of course, chose nice spring stuff that I'd freeze in today. Today I also went a little bit more reasonable as far as price. Both of my dream items came from Macy's today.
First up, we have these lovely, lovely shoes. I need a little added height and these pretty things are perfect. The only problem I see is that I hate wearing nylons with open toed heels and my pasty legs need to be covered up. But I'm still lovin' them.

This next one is perfect also and would go well with my pasty legs and open toed shoes. Really, I love Macy's because they have dresses that are cute that have sleeves. You still have to wear a tank under it to help out with the plunging neckline. I will admit that I like these earrings but I think I'd opt for something a little less dangly. And hot dog if I had her skin color I'd be set.

P.S. The photos are hot linked. So if you click on them, it will take you to Macy's where you'll see how bad good a deal I got.

Night on the Town

Isn't it nice to sometimes have a night out? This weekend the hubby and I went for a much needed date. We went this cute place called The Cheesecake Factory. We'd heard about it from friends as being pretty good. So we braved the 30-minute wait to get in on a Saturday night. They had the most enjoyable outdoor eating area with heaters and candles on the tables. It was very romantic. The hubby and I sat and ate great bread and had adult conversation for a while. We ordered and ate. The food wasn't that great but the cheesecake is actually pretty good. We are big New York Cheesecake connisseurs.

Afterwards, we went to Target and did a little shopping. It was weird. We didn't have a cart or a child in tow. We browsed. How cool is that? We really didn't have anything in particular that we were shopping for, just browsing. It was nice.

Anyway we came home and the lovely babysitter had both our kids in bed, the house looked exactly the way I left it, and she was ready to go. It was great! The hubby paid her and took her home. Perhaps we should do that more often honey! hint hint

Anyone Need a 3-6 month old girly dress?

I had a sewing mishap last weekend. I made a dress for the Little Lady and sure enough it's too small. That girl is growing too fast. It would probably fit a 3-6 month old sized girl. Anyone need it? It's homemade (read: not machine washable or it will fall apart). Here's the picture of my masterpiece (that I'm trying to give away) modeled by my lovely Little Lady (the one time she wore it...don't be deceived it is too small).

Bowling Bliss

Today we took the kid(s) bowling. Well one of them bowled the other just sat there. But the Babe had a great time! He has no idea that the object of bowling is to knock down the pins. He thought it was to roll the ball down the lane then see it magically appear back up behind you. Then he thought it was really cool that there was a picture of the pins on the screen after you rolled the ball down. He also thought the fun thing that you put the ball on to help it roll down was a slide for him to play on too. It was fun! 2 games was a bit much for our budding bowler.

Grey's Anatomy

I'm very upset at one of my good friends here. She is a Grey's Anatomy addict and let me in on the secret that you can watch it on Abc.com free the next day, commercial-free. Of course, I am now addicted thanks. Today we almost had mommy meltdown because when I had 10 minutes left the site crashed. I then wasted an hour and a half seeing if it was back up. What is wrong with me? I hate t.v. especially soap-operas. I guess I've needed a little cheesy addiction.

Wardrobe Wednesday

I wanted to do this new thing. It's called Wardrobe Wednesday. I find something that I would be wearing if: money, children, season, or the real shape of my body didn't matter. So today I wanted to start out with 2 outfits (not to be worn together).

First off I love this coat. It looks slimming and very cute. If you click on it, you can go to Nordstrom.com where I found this gem and see the price. But whatever you do don't look at the back view. I'd have to cut that off if I wore it today. But big buttons and light colors aren't so good for grabby babies and sweet potato spit up stains.
trenchcoat

The 2nd gem I found was also from Nordstrom.com. This lovely black dress would be perfect for all the wonderful parties I attend. It would work oh so well with my body and accent my nice white pasty legs. While clearly out of my price range, it's still oh so nice to look at. Of course those shoes would have to go though. And obviously if I was wearing it, you would find a huge smile on my face.

Preschool Sucess

The Babe came home from preschool today thrilled and excited about going to school. I think he cares more about the social part of it than the learning. He told me about the "fancy slides," how his friend from church is in his class and how he got to play with trucks. When I ask about the letter "O" he colored, he said that he didn't know about it. Later, he admitted that they learned about a big "O" and a tiny baby "o". I think he'll go back! I can handle it if he likes it. So that's great!

The Babe starts Preschool

Today the Babe started preschool. I promised him that when he was potty trained he could "go to school." We have an elementary school behind our house and he sees the kids playing on the playground a lot and wants to go to school. So I told him I'd put him in preschool when he was potty trained. Well he's been potty trained for a while now but we're moving soon. So I thought I'd just wait until after the move and things settled down a bit. But he's been asking me every time he's goes potty, "Mom? Can I go to school now?" (Like right now) So I found a preschool and signed him up for 6 weeks worth of classes until the move. I thought this would be great for me to get some time to pack and play with the Little Lady as well as good for him to get some exposure to school for a short time.

I went and signed him up and left him for his first day of preschool. How sad! I'm sad. My little boy is growing up. I don't want him to go to school. He's too little. But sure enough kids grow up. Faster than we'd like to imagine.

I broke all the rules. I sent him in sandals without socks, I brought him in the wrong door and I stayed with him a few minutes to make sure he was ok. I'm sure they'll overlook this for me. I'm still sad though. I don't know what to do with my time except worry about him.

Something else changed today too. I couldn't live with the concept of sending my kid off to school without having morning prayer. Because my husband leaves so early in the morning for work, we're never awake to have prayer. So this morning we called the hubby at work to have morning prayer. It was very cute.

I'll write after he gets home to tell how he did and if I survived. Only 1 hour left. In the meantime, here's his first day of school pictures. Terrible pictures...we were late! On the first day!

Internet Safety

About every 6 months, I get freaked out over internet safety. I start to worry that some psycho person is reading my blog and is coming to get me. Today I'm feelin it again. So I pose the questions: How much is too much information? Should I really not put pictures of my family on here? and What are my other options?

I can answer these questions from my perception but I really want your opinions also. I think that too much information is using real names, places and give anyone enough information to come get you. No I don't use real names and while I do say I live in Vegas, it's a big city. I hope that I don't give enough info so someone could come get me.

I think it is ok to put pictures of my family on here. In general, the people who read my blog are family and personal friends. So whenever I get a reader who I don't know, I freak out. I do get readers who are one timers. But it's when I get someone reading daily.

My other options are not blog....out of the question. I could password it but then no one would read. Or I could not write about my life which also seems silly.

So every 6 months, I circle the same questions and come to the same conclusion. I could live in a bubble panicking about every little germ but I choose not to and as long as I'm smart about what I write then I hope and pray (lots of praying here) that my family will be protected. This post is an attempt to scare off any psycho people too. If you're psycho, please stop reading now.

Warm Fuzzy Feelings

Isn't it great when you make a good decision how you just feel so.....good? We have changed our decision to switch companies and we're staying with this company only moving to a new office. We've both felt really good about this decision and today it's all done. He called up the other guy and "untold" him that he would take the job. Of course, the hubby is super sweet so he found a friend he went to school with who is making less money than this company offered us and sent him towards him. It just so happens that his college buddy lives very very close to our ex-future employer's office. One mans trash is another mans treasure. Ok that's a little harsh because it's not trash to us but you get the point.

The other great thing is we have 6 weeks before we move! That is great and bad at the same time. That means I have 6 more weeks to procrastinate packing/cleaning. But the stuff I do already have packed has to be unpacked now. I know that this is just going to drive me crazy. I already feel like we're living out of boxes but another 6 weeks?

One more great thing is that we can enjoy this great weather a little longer and then move and enjoy great spring weather again! Lastly, the Babe has been begging since he's been potty trained to go to school. So I'm putting him in school for 6 weeks. Twice a week for almost 3 hours each day. Life is good.

We're Moving

boxes

I can finally announce that the reason I haven't been posting is because we are in the process of moving. It's really a quick move and so I'm stressed out. I have to get my house ready to show to find a new renter while I pack. I also have to try to find a house to buy 500 miles away. I can't even explain how frustrating it is. Right now, we have no place to move to but the hubby starts the new job in 2 weeks. 2 weeks!

I felt I couldn't tell anyone until the hubby gave his 2-week notice so none of them (well maybe a few choice ones) know. The hubby has been trying to figure out how to work there but keep his obligations here that he committed to until the beginning of May.

In spite of all of this, it is beautiful here! It's been in the high 80's, low 90's here! My tomato plants have little baby tomatoes on them. My daffodils have come and gone. My tulips and hyacinths are blooming now. I'm wearing my capris again! (they fit!) My toes are painted all ready to wear sandals (except my heels look scary). I love spring!

Dealing with Stress

I've had a stressful time lately. We have some major life decisions going on which I can't write about. But I pose the question, what are some of the ways you deal with stress?

I've decided I do a number of things. When the hubby and I were talking about marriage, we ripped paper. Yes, we pulled out a newspaper, scissors and cut paper. Then that was too stressful so we just shredded it with our hands. We got to that point the other night again.

I often make excessive lists, take baths, take long naps (yeah right!), and I talk to deal with stress. Talking is probably the best way for me to relieve stress. I talk to think. I usually have to talk through something in order to come to a conclusion. The hubby has to think to talk. He has to think about something for a while before he can talk about it. Which are you?

I know some people have to do something physical, say for example workout or go running. That doesn't help me, it just makes me tired. Some people eat. I just eat all day anyway, stressed or not. So that's out. Some people shop. I can say I'm guilty of this. Some people clean. Mir does this and she wrote about it here. I'm lucky if I ever clean much less when I'm stressed. I, and lots of people now, usually write. But I can't write about this yet so I'm struggling.

What are some ways you deal with stress?

Tiny Baby Poopy and the One Legged Pigeon

The Babe is potty trained....well sort of. We've been out of town for a few days so he's digressed a little. Today the Babe came running out his bedroom and got the hubby to show him something. The hubby found a measuring cup sitting inside his door upside-down covering something up. The hubby turns it over and underneath he finds a little poop pellet.

The Babe said, "Look dad, it's a little tiny baby poop."

So apparently the Babe went into his bedroom, pulled his pants down, pooped (which we found a big pile later in the corner), then moved part of it and covered it up with a measuring cup. I was livid. But we survived.

The other story I have been meaning to blog about was about the one legged pigeon. The Babe, the Little Lady and I went out to get into our car in the garage the other day when my son said, "Look under the car mom." I looked under the car to find a one legged pigeon about a foot from my son about ready to peck his eyes out. Now our garage was still closed so this pigeon had been in there who knows how long, maybe overnight. So I freaked out. I call my hubby and to ask what to do. Of course, he's always the levelheaded one and said just get a broom and sweep it out. The Babe still won't stop talking about the one legged pigeon.
